The Tradition
In 1949 George Edmondson was watching the Gators play The Citadel at Florida Field. The home fans were booing the Gator team, until Edmondson stood up and transformed the boos into supportive hollers with his morale-boosting “2-Bits” cheer. That day, the tradition of Mr. 2-Bits began.
After
more than sixty years of cheers, George Edmondson officially retired
in 2008. But Mr. 2-Bits will forever remain one of the most unique
traditions in all of sports, rallying school spirit and camaraderie
among Gator fans everywhere.
